Carmen – Georges Bizet
Following the huge success of La Traviata last season, the choice for its successor was obvious: Carmen! This timeless audience favorite, featuring unforgettable arias such as La Habanera, Toreador, and Seguidilla, tells a story that continues to shock and fascinate.
It is the story of a young, beautiful, and free-spirited woman who must pay for her independence with her life. In a world where femicide and violence against women are, sadly, still pressing issues, the drama of Carmen takes on an added urgency.
For this production, in collaboration with Ukrainian opera houses, we have assembled a cast that can truly be considered a dream ensemble. In the leading roles: Marianna Tsvietinska, Maxime Vorochek—known for his unforgettable Violetta and Alfredo in La Traviata—Tatiana Galkina as the irresistible Carmen, and the powerful baritone Olexandr Forkushak. Together they form a dynamic quartet that guarantees vocal highlights and compelling, intense performances.
The ensemble and the orchestra consist, just like last season, largely of Ukrainian musicians and singers living in the diaspora, which adds a unique authenticity to every performance.
The Ukraine Chamber Opera presents this production of Carmen in an intimate and direct staging: stripped of all frills, with a complete focus on the essence of the story.
