'Geweldig theater is vaak heel eenvoudig, maar het is niet eenvoudig geweldig theater te maken.'
RADELOOS, REDELOOS, REDDELOOS
After the success of Vive le Geus, Camerata Trajectina again created a theatrical performance during the Month of History.
In Redeloos, Radeloos, Reddeloos, history comes to life and the Disaster Year 1672 is portrayed in a penetrating and recognizable way.
The Disaster Year 1672 marks the end of the Golden Age that our country lived through. The French Sun King Louis XIV wanted to annex the republic of the Netherlands and, in its defense, the country was largely flooded. The regents retreated behind the Water Line, the French troops had free play in the rural areas.
Music as comfort, as a news source and as a propaganda tool.
Emotions ran high and the country was divided to the core. French versus Dutch, dry versus flooded, Orange versus De Witt, the people versus the elite.
Through video projections, Johan de Witt (Hans Goedkoop) and Willem III (Leendert de Ridder) fly at each other's throats.
Camerata Trajectina crawls, on stage, into the role of the complaining, belligerent or desperate citizen with a chillingly beautiful repertoire. The songs teach to understand the chaos, articulate hope and fear, and try to convince others.
'The people beyond redemption, the government beyond despair and our country beyond salvation!' Who has the power and determines the course of the country? With the program Redeloos, radeloos, reddeloos, Camerata Trajectina presents a contemporary multimedia performance that encourages reflection. Can parallels be drawn with the current political climate, in which the gap between the articulate citizen and politics seems to be widening?
