A MIDSUMMERNIGHTSDREAMup
For this performance series of a Midsummer Night's Dream, I created an entirely new translation of Shakespeare's play with Leonie Kappmeyer.
None of the existing versions were satisfactory in my eyes. They were either completely modernized, so that the poetry of the original had disappeared; or so traditional in metre that the content was totally incomprehensible.
My ideal was to combine the original poetry, rhythm, and complete clarity in the translation. To rhyme where the master rhymes, with exactly the same number of syllables as the original to create a script as close to the original as possible.
This combined with a completely scenery-less concept and rich costuming was the key to creating the most original version of the play possible.
A fresh, bright, funny and poignant version. For all ages. Given the reactions of both press and audience, we totally succeeded.
This production of A Midsummer Night's Dream was a resounding success with a wonderful cast, insane costumes, and beautiful music that took the production to a fairy-tale level.
