DE TRIOMFERENDE MIN (Love Triumphant)
NRC-Handelsblad****
...A dynamic and richly costumed show directed by Marc Krone with a total of 31 singers..
De triomferende min (Love Triumphant) is considered to be the first Dutch opera ever written. Although not quite an opera in the modern sense of the word (it is actually more a drama with songs) the elaborate musical score gravitates towards opera. The excellent vocal music ánd the choral part survived integrally. In addition to that, a small portion of the instrumental music was handed down. The rest of the interludes and dance-music was restored by reconstructions.
To make the, rather enigmatic, play more accessible to modern audiences, in collaboration with historian Luc Panhuysen, songs and spoken dialogues were added to the play about ‘the year of disaster’ including the lynching of the brothers De Witt, the battles at the Hollandic Water Line and the destruction of Castle Amerongen.
